Several of the people involved in Aoradh have had a long involvment with music, and in particular the use of music in worship. Most of us love to sing and play together. It was a natural thing to form a band.
But it is not like most bands.
Membership is fluid and fairly open to anyone who wants to join us in worship. Our practices are not always particularly disciplined, and happen with intensity only when we are panic driven by an approching event.
Our musical style has evolved to make best use of our collective talents, and the instruments on offer, so at our best,we play passionate, folky music with a brass section (and whatever else is on offer!) We play mainly worship music, but some of us also use other music to communicate aspects of our faith and life.
Those of us who have been around the contempory Christian worship scene for a while have developed a mixed appreciation for the songs and styles that hold sway at the big Christian services. There are some great songs, but things have become very commercial, and highly performance driven. It is hard to escape the idea that the worship music industry is a machine that has a life of its own.
At the same time, modern worship is often all about MUSIC. Music is great, but there is so much more. As a band, we have sought to partner and work with a much wider repertoire of tools- borrowed from the ever expanding 'alternative worship' scene.
We also have a firm belief that music should always be 'more than the sum of its parts'- by joining our offering, it becomes much more. this means that we have little time for prima donnas or even virtuoso musicians who just want a space for their art!
Our music, as with all our worship should arise as an authentic product of community, offered to God from right where we are. We place a high emphasis on relationships- musicians so often make these secondary to music itself.
What we produce, we can only ask you to judge kindly, and hope that something of our passion and our combined skills and talents are communicated.
Like all of the other parts of Aoradh, we are always looking for ways to find partnerships and to serve others with our music. If you think we might be able to help - contact us!
See lyrics section for some of our home-grown lyrics- these also say something about the nature of our community.
