Labyrinths

We have used the excellent Labyrinth kit from Proost (www.proost.co.uk) on two occasions now.

For those who have not heard of how effective labyrinths can be as an aid to meditation and spiritual examination, then there is an on-line labyrinth at

http://www.rejesus.co.uk/spirituality/labyrinth/index.html

Our first use of the labyrinth was in an unused shop on Dunoon's high street. We used the shop as a prayer room for a weekend in january 2007.

In October, 2007, we set up the Labyrinth again in a wonderful wooden building at the end of DunoonDunoon pier pier. This building used to be the 'pier disco', but has been empty for some time. It has a lovely light airy quality because of its location over water, and there is something special about the liminal location of piers- they are neither land nor sea.

The use of the labyrinth at this time was stimulated by a partnership with Cowal Walking festival. It was a special time for Aoradh. Peaceful, and worshipful. Lots of folk came to use the instalation- mostly from a non-church background.

The labyrinth has not been without controversy. Some of the Christians in town have concerns about the nature of installations like this, that tend to use words like 'spiritual', but are not overtly evangelistic in the traditional sense. I think our defence of the labyrinth would be the entries in our guest book, which seemed to show that visitors were affected by something deep, meaningful and eternal.
